UNIT 4 ·
Describe your experience. Did you find it beneficial? Difficult? Why or
why not? Would you recommend this to others? Why or why not?
Personally I find these exercises to
be a bit hard for me to get into. With this one I did find the sound of the
waves to be very relaxing. For me I think that the exercises are long and I find
it hard to concentrate after awhile. I would recommend these to them under the pretense
that they are long.
· What is the concept
of "mental workout"? What does the research indicate are the proven
benefits of a mental workout? How can you implement mental workouts to foster
your psychological health?
A mental
workout is the process of distressing the mind so to speak. When you do this
you open up your conscious mind to let it expand and decompress. This is a very
important thing to do in order for our mind to expand. I need to start doing
more of the workouts but I can never find the time…so I need to tart to make
the time!
Hi Dorothy,
ReplyDeleteI understand about the time, I had the same problem the last time we were to listen to it. This time after reading our assignment in Chaper 6, Psychospiritual Flourishings, I began to think it has to be something to this, so I am going to try this again. Maybe when the kids are asleep at night and early in the morning give it a try. I had to try it on the weekend this time when no one was home but me. It was quiet and I could really relax and get into it. Remember you can start with 5 minutes twice a day and work your way up, like exercise get started! If you need reminders, I am here for you, it will help me also.
The definition of mental workout is very informative. I went by what was in our assignment.
What I learned from your blog is your meaning of mental workout. I like distressing the mind, and expanding and decompressing the conscious mind, good explanation!
Hi
ReplyDeleteI would have to say your experience is the opposite of mine. I didn't have too hard of a time getting into the Loving-Kindness exercise. The time seemed to go by pretty quickly after I got into it. My husband was sitting next to me so he said it was like the two of us in Maui or on the beach off Lake Michigan with the wave sound in the background.
I thought your description of mental fitness is right to the point and easy for others to also understand what it means. It is also hard for me to find the time to do it each day with so much going on. I have learned that if we both can find the time to do this exercise each day then we will be able to expand our mind in only a few minutes a day. Great job this week and I suggest I send you a reminder that we need to do this no matter what comes our way. It is time that we need to take for ourselves.

Hello Retta and Danielle
ReplyDeleteThank you both for commenting on my blog. I would like it a lot if we could help one another out. I also think by us helping one another we are being held accountable to make the time and get it done!
I like how you said that a mental workout is a way to destress the mind and to allow it to grow! This is so true.
ReplyDeleteI too found this exercise rather difficult to get into. I was following along great until it had us take in all of a loved ones suffering and pain. I just could not get back from that point, it was rather hard on me.
